Getting started in the sport of fly fishing can be intimidating, though it need not be particularly difficult. Here at Sweetwater Fly Shop, we do all we can to make fly fishing accessible to the beginner, from happily answering even the most basic questions, to making equipment and reading suggestions, to hosting regular free beginner’s casting clinics throughout the summer season (see our events calendar for details).
For a fully-immersed introduction to fly fishing, many beginners, even first-timers, opt to take a guided fishing trip. Guided trips are not just for experienced anglers; they are also perfect for fly fishing lessons! Our guides are expert and patient instructors and love to introduce beginners to the sport they love. With a full day to fish under the tutelage of a guide, beginners are almost guaranteed to improve markedly in their skills by the end of the day. And catching fish, though never guaranteed, is a distinct possibility.
Not able to schedule in a full day of guided fishing? Consider signing up for a private Cast and Wade lesson to get a jump start on learning to fly fish. You’ll get 2 hours of instruction from a licensed guide and a chance to actually wet your line in the world-famous Yellowstone River.
Whether it be one-on-one, group instruction, or more in depth classes, Sweetwater Fly Shop has instruction to fit your needs and skill level.
