Looks like the Yellowstone River’s climb to full runoff is going to be postponed for a little while by the colder weather this week and weekend. The National Weather Service is predicting that the river will fall to around 5000 cfs by the weekend (from its current 8000-some cfs). Barring heavy rains (and rain is in the forecast), the dropping water should result in improved clarity. You’ll have to be a bit hardy to fish this weekend, but the fishing itself should be good. Cloudy weather bodes well for throwing streamers. So bundle up and get in some final days of fishing before runoff arrives for real.
