The Yellowstone River remains in good fishing shape, despite the rains we’ve had lately. Visibility at Carter’s Bridge this morning is at least a couple of feet, and there is no evidence of spikes higher upstream. So the positive conditions should continue, barring heavy rain later this week.
Just a quick addendum to Paul’s fishing report yesterday – I too have been doing pretty well wade fishing the Yellowstone recently. For me, all of the action has come on nymphs. I’ve tried smaller streamers just about every time I’ve been out, with only a few bumps to show for it. But I’ll keep trying.
I’ve caught trout on a variety of nymphs. The clear winner lately has been a size 8 Rubberlegs. I’ve had luck with several different colors (olive & brown, brown, black, tan). Besides that, I’ve caught fish on Psycho Princes, red Copper Johns, Lightning Bugs, Zebra Midges, and a couple of others I’m not remembering right now.
