We have the opportunity to host George Daniel, acclaimed fly fisher and bestselling author of “Dynamic Nymphing,” for a full-day class in early August. Before we fly him to Montana from his home in Pennsylvania, we thought we’d test the level of interest in the area.
George has been described as one of the best fly fishers in the nation. He was a member of Fly Fishing Team USA for 7 years, during which time he traveled the world competing against and learning from the world’s greatest anglers. He has developed a truly global approach to nymph fishing, which he now teaches through his book and seminars. for a full bio, click here.
The focus of George’s class is to build a strong nymphing foundation, with an emphasis of fishing without a suspension device (aka indicator). The tactics discussed will include tight lining and European style nymphing. The purpose of this class is not to persuade you to only fish with tight line tactics, but to demonstrate where/when fishing without a suspension device makes the most practical sense. The 6-hour class will include approximately 2 hours of “classroom” instruction and 4 hours of on-the-water instruction. Topics covered will include equipment, reading the stream, casting weighted rigs, presenting nymphs in shallow, medium, and deep water, reading the drift, line management, rigging, pattern selection, and one on one instruction. The class will cost $200 per student. Class size will be limited.
Think you might be interested in learning these exciting nymphing techniques from a master angler and instructor? Please shoot us an email or leave a comment to this post. If there’s enough interest, we’ll schedule George’s early August Montana visit within the next few days. Folks who have contacted us via email or a comment will have priority for class registration.
p.s. We are holding George Daniel’s class here at the shop on Saturday, August 1. See our more recent post for registration information.
